Afterthoughts...

As I was packing up my entry for this year's GBWC, preparing to head home, I thought of penning down some thoughts. First of all, a big thanks to friends who offered congratulatory handshakes (I got a Merit mention LOL). Some guys shared their views about the results, which I shall keep strictly between us since we're all entitled to our own opinions but not necessarily to air them. Which leads me to mine, if anyone cares at all that is, heh -

How do I feel about my own result? Well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. Winning is not everything, but we all want some form of recognition for the effort we put in, whether we'll admit it or not. Recognition could come in the form of replies on a forum, pats on the back by friends, or an official award. For me, it would have been nice to at least maintain my Third place ranking from last year, but alas I wasn't even on the radar in this one LOL. I was asking myself many narrow-minded questions - is the judging format different this year? Was it cos they couldn't allow two FA Banshees to feature, since one was already the overall champ? Or MAYBE, (and this is probably the only one true reason) - I just wasn't good enough. It's as simple as that.

So it's back to the drawing board. But I think the way to go about it is to strive to outdo MYSELF. And not anyone else. Did I outdo myself this year? I honestly think I did. So happened that some others outdid me LOL. So next year's game plan? Outdo myself on an even higher level. If that level is enough for a win, then that's a bonus, I guess. Most importantly though, this ensures your skills advance while your passion is maintained...this last point, to me, is most salient - If you lose sight of what your goals in a competition are, you'll lose sight of why you even started this hobby in the first place.

Well, enough talk.  I learnt a lot from this competition, both from my own build and from the builds of others, and made some friends along the way too. And just for these, it's good enough to keep me coming back for more. I hope this applies to y'all as well.

Let's get back to Gunpla, and see you guys next year.

That's mine philosophy: I am my worst enemy, and my greatest competitor. If I can beat myself, how can I beat others.

Until next year!

Correction: That's "If I can't beat myself, how can I beat others?"

I think your model kit looks pretty great; though I can see why the other Banshee won. The other Banshee felt more 'organic' in terms of kit-bashing. The focus was really on the Banshee.

Yours felt like the other way around. Your 'morrigan' parts (i.e. the additional parts to the Banshee) were drawing too much attention away from the Banshee. Also, the connection between the waist and the 'base' of the figure didn't quite seem right. It feels like the Banshee is just placed on top of the base. Maybe if you had approached it more like the Colony Devil Gundam style, it would have felt more organic. By the Colony style, I mean this: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/g/lineart/jdg-00x-colonyhead.jpg. Maybe some connector tubes between the 'morrigan' parts and the Banshee would have made it more organic.

I hope you don't take offence, just my two cents. Like I said, it's a great model. I'm still ages away from getting details like that on my figures.

Hi Matt, no offense taken. Thanks for the feedback. Yup they definitely make sense. ;)

hey waylander! Your works never fail to inspire , each and every one of them. you may not have won this year gbwc but to me your work is one the best. from that heck of a paintjob on the three MG age - 1 to your old projects, you have never stop being a role model to me, a young modeller. hope to be able to get those details like you did at some point in the future(currently only 15 LOL ). the Morrigan is one hell of a build! ( those "eyes" ....)

HI Waylander, sorry you didn't win. I thought yours was much more unique than the Banshee that won (not that that wasn't good as well).

All the best for next year, and don't give up. I will be following this blog regularly!

Haha i didin't use airbrush as currently do not own one, all the painting done through spraying. Haha i intend to purchase a airbrush kit soon but i have some problem like, is it diffcult to use and maintain? And that day i saw one air brush cost $70 at a Tamiya shop wonder that is it reliable. haha hope you can guide me, thanks:)

Waylander said...

Ooh saw your entry. Don't worry bro it's the effort that counts, and you will get better. As for airbrush, yes start with a cheap one first. Once yo have mastered it then move on to better quality one. Airbrush is quite easy to maintain. The shop should tell you how to clean it. Not sure what you Tamiya airbrush looks like, but there are a few types. You can try going down to Hobby Art Gallery. They can give you some recommendations. My advice is start with a cheap one first. Best of luck man! Let me know if you have any problems ;D

Haha ok. Thanks alot. Yep, if i have any problem i will let you know^^ Thanks alot^^

Hey bro, bought it from Hobby Art Gallery. You can check them out at Sunshine Plaza, Bencoolen Street. Just Google, should be easy to find. There is also another shop at that place called M Workshop where you can find accessories etc. Good luck!
