Aaaaand we're back to Gundam business even before Christmas is officially over! So for those of you in the know, the GBWC Finals in HK just wrapped and the GRAND WINNER has been announced. This would probably be one of his best Xmas presents EVER for Jeff Ho of Malaysia. Yep folks, Jeff's just been crowned the World Champ for this year's 2011. Congrats to Malaysia! You can see more of his masterpiece, the KShatriya IV here.
Next up is Hongkong in 2nd place, ALSO a Kshatriya, the HADES KSHATRIYA by Kong Yiu Man:
And in 3rd, Japan's WISH by Yamatatu:
Congrats to all the winners, although I have to admit the results were a 'lil unexpected for me. Not to take away any credit to all three winners though. I can only hope to be in their place one day! And of course we cannot leave out all other winners from various countries. You can have a comprehensive list of the winners by country on Bandai's official site. I'm re-posting them here for the record, and my two cents worth:
CHINA: THREE KINGDOMS by Guo Tian You
This one's an eye-catcher even though it didn't place, and it's an SD. Skillful use of one colour with tones here. Love the terrain texture. The whole feel was meant to capture those traditional Chinese calligraphy paintings, if I'm not wrong. Really wished I had more pics. Anyone know where this fella's gallery is at, feel free to point out.
KOREA: ALL HYBRID RX-78 by Sori.Kim
One of my favourites hands-down. You gotta pay close scrutiny to be able tell how impressive his worksmanship is. More pics here.
INDONESIA: KSHATRIYA by Budi Salim
A really finely detailed and cleverly colour-schemed clean build. More pics here.
THE PHILIPPINES: BUSTA IMPULSE by Michael T. Costa
Really like how he worked the colour-combis here, and converted a 1/60 Impulse into a Buster. Can Bandai make a PG Buster like this please! Lol.
ITALY: RX-78-2 - CLOSE COMBAT MOBILE SUIT by Domenico Febbo
This is also a favourite! No insanely souped up mods, just mobile suits in their pure form doing battle. Really one of the most dynamic dios I've came across. Wished I knew how he secured everything together. Clever!
USA: SAZABI'S FINAL MISSION by Gamera Baenrae
The only glossed up entry to make it to the Finals. Full marks for the bling!
TAIWAN: DAYS IN AEUG by Lin Zhi Zih-Ciao
If you think the title sounds quirky, it's 'cos it's a direct translation from Mandarin, where the modeller spoofed on a very popular movie You Are The Apple of My Eye (that's the English name of the film...the Chinese version translates directly into 'Those Years, That Girl We Courted'). (Catch it guys, if a dubbed version is available in your country!) Zih-Ciao's title for his masterpiece in Mandarin plays on the 'Those Years' concept, and translates directly into 'Those Years, I spent in AEUG'. Geddit now? (But I rephrased the translation of course, for my own preference). Clever piece of marketing there dood! Lol.
AUSTRALIA: MG RICKDOM by Mark Carlisle
Really interesting use of the flame camo pattern here. It's the Rickdom from HELL! Don't mess with this fella. Lol.
SINGAPORE: THE SAZABI by ONG POH THEAN
My own country!! Gotta give props here. Look closely and you'll realise just how much detailing and mods went into this baby. More pics here.
And that's about it guys! A big round of applause to all the Finals entries. No....To ALL participants who took part in the GBWC in their various countries. Hopefully Gunpla love spreads across the world and we'll see more countries join the party in years to come. Till then, see you guys next year! ;D
