FULL ARMOUR MADNESS (Part II)

I just have to post this for my own personal archives. Hot on the heels of Full Armour designs (which are my latest craze), I managed to unearth more crazy shit from Ninjascience's photostream. YOWZA! These look like Gundams and Five Star Stories kitbashed to detailed perfection. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if only they made kits like these....!!! lol (Full credit to Ninjascience for images)

FULL ARMOUR MADNESS

I've been into full armour designs lately. Which is a first for me cos I've always preferred sleek, dynamic forms like the Exia. But surfing the net opened my eyes to some really rad full armour mechs out there. What's a full armour concept? Well basically just take a gundam, and stack as much shit onto it as you can till it looks impenetrable. And viola! But it has to look kickass of course. Here are some of my favourites, all from Ninjascience's Flikr stream. This guy's got some really great online collections. Check em out..

A NEW AGE?

We've all seen the hero suit for the new series Gundam Age. To be honest, I was not very impressed when I first set eyes on it. It just looked like a mash up between 0 Gundam, RX, and Beginning Gundam. Didn't really feel very fresh to me. Then Gundam Guy recently announced two more evolved designs of the AGE 1 Gundam. Feelings are mixed....Granted, they are better than I thought it would be (I didn't have much high hopes after the first one! :P), but they still left the hardcore Gundam fan somewhat....wanting.

i hope this leads to something.....!!

Is that a Sinanju?? Is that a FAZZ????? Here's a sneak peek on something I've been cracking my brains on. I think I've finally had some kinda breakthrough late in the game....I think the form of the mecha is finally coming to me. Hallelujah!

Dont know if I'll make it in time for Bakuc though! Stay tuned....

OPTIMUS PRIME (REVOLTECH)

Yo fellas...Alright for the non-TF fans, sorry to bore you guys out, but I'm having some problems gaining momentum for Bakuc these days, so I thought I'd do some shopping to cheer myself up on a weekend funk. Gonna do a review on my latest purchase today - Revoltech's Optimus Prime, movie version. Take a look, ladies and gents. Is this or is this not one handsome mofo? LOL.

seira masuo

Those of you who read the Jap hobby mags should know who Seira Masuo is. He's the Jap maestro with a distinct style for pla-bits-cum-indentation details, pastel colour schemes, kitbashing, and brown panel-linings. Most editorial features showcasing his work come with a 'LOVE' stamp that I think, represents a series or something...I duno.

I'M GETTING THIS BABY! (Updated)

Hot damn this is one sweet mecha. I think it stands about the height of a PG Gundam or taller. Do NOT call this a Transformer! It's by China company TFC toys, and I don't know why it kinda looks familiar to me *cough - devastator~!*, but whatever it look likes, I think I'm sold. Heh.

MECHA PORN (GUNPLA INSPIRATION)

Okay so following my 'Cool, strange and daring' post, here're more kickass mecha concept art that can be used as Gunpla inspiration, whether it's for weapons design, colour scheme or just to ogle at. If you guys know any more, feel free to direct me and I'll post 'em. I might just get some concepts for my Bakuc project off these. ;D Enjoy!

A BIG THANK YOU FOR THE MILESTONE!!!

Alright folks, it's probably nothing to you guys, but it's a personal milestone to me...that is, my humble blog has crossed the 10k pageviews mark after about over a month since its birth. Woot! It's small potatoes by blog standards - some of you guys probably have blogs that clock 10k views in a day! - but to me, it's a little truimph, since five digits in my hits counter now looks way more respectable than four! LOL. ;D

A big thank you to the support from everyone and anyone who has been coming here, especially to guys like Toymaker and DC who have featured this blog. I hope to keep you folks entertained with more works and observations as we go along. Rock on!

THE COOL, THE STRANGE AND THE DARING

GN-Psychoframe overload!!
With commissions outta da way and enough fiddling around with Transformers (for now), I'm gearing up to start on my Bakuc piece by trawling the Net on alternative Gundam designs for inspiration. And I came across some pretty interesting stuff to share. Try and see if you can guess which original Gundam designs these variants are based after. To my best efforts, I'll try to credit the sources where there's enough info for me to credit, so here goes:

THE KING!!! (Predaking kitbash)

Sweeeet metal balls of Zeon~!!!! That is one MONSTER! LOL. This work was done way back in 2005, but I only came across it recently. In terms of sheer detail and scale for a TF kitbash, this one takes the cake! Woot!

TRANSFORMERS CUSTOMS: EXTINCTION

What if the Dinobots could combine???? Just had to feature this. It blew me away when I saw it. This is a piece by American TF master customiser Frenzy_Rumble, who basically modified the five Dinobots - Grimlock, Sludge, Slag, Snarl, and Swoop into one mega monster - Extinction. Holy shit...this is one of my fav non-Gundam customs ever. period. Someday, I'll get down to doing something like this...

HALL OF FAME: DESTROY GUNDAM

Although this was done by none other than our very own local maestro, I was not into modelling at the time this awesome piece of work was conceived. This won our Bakuc for 2006, and at a scale of 1/144, it still stands at a humongous 50cm tall, complete with dio. A 1/60 Impulse Gundam was used as the base kit, with tons and tons of epoxy and pla plates gone into scratch-building. Mind-boggling!

HALL OF FAME: THE LAST GATE

Here's a blast from the past that's still good enough to beat any entry from the present. Malaysian modeller Erix93's "The Last Gate" dio featuring a final stand by Fed suits against an onslaught of Zeon forces. This monster won the 2005 Asia Cup, and it's not hard to see why...

Hall of Fame: Double 0 with regnant claw

Some of you guys might not have seen this work of art before 'cos it was the mid-year compy winner in 2009 for S'pore, so it never made it out of our tiny island to see the rest of the world! And Izakku81 was not as active blogging back then. So now I present to you in all its glory, his crazy build, made even crazier given that this was before the MG Double 0 even came out. Yes, it was modified from the crappy NG version using an SF waist. And the claw...that's completely scratch-built. 'Nuff said!

HALL OF FAME: SINANJU FWS

This one is another winner from last year - Toymaker's Sinanju Full Weapons System! It won the mid-year Bandai compy in Singapore last year, but I think it's good enough for any yearend Asia or World Cup if you ask me. One of his most perfect builds so far, I've seen it firsthand and it's truly kickass. If you're thinking of buying it though, sorry folks, this masterpiece isn't for sale, but on permanent display duty for Hobby Art Gallery.

HALL OF FAME: GREIFER

This is somewhat of an outdated post, but I'm compiling the best works out there for my Hall of Fame page. For anyone who hasn't seen this, it's the Greifer by Jap master Style-S (I think that's what he's called). This monster won the latest Ora Zaku competition - the top level compy in the world - and is basically scractched-built and modelled after - what else - the Gouf! I've not seen the real thing but from the pics, this one just blows the imagination away. Enjoy!

MG EXIA SHADOW MODE

As promised, here is a gallery feature of my newly finished MG Exia, OOB commission. I'm quite satisfied with the results, as I didn't know how the colour scheme would turn out at first. I hope the client agrees! :P Less words, more pics. Enjoy:

EXIA SHADOW VER. SNEAK PEEK

Man I'm zonked! My goal was to finish the Exia commission by this weekend so I could start on Bakuc next week and boy, did I get on a roll! I practically spent the whole Saturday finishing up this kit 'cos I won't have time on Sun, and it's already 5 in the morning as we speak. But it's looking mighty good, if I do say so myself. :P

THIRD-PARTY TRANSFORMERS

Okay so this is more of an observational post. I'd like to talk about third-party toys. While a crude term to use would be 'pirated', I think if you look at the quality and price involved in certain third party products, especially for the Transformers toys, you can hardly call these works of art, pirates. Don't believe me? See for yourself. To avoid conflict or any accusations that I support third-party toys, I shall refrain from using the actual names of what some of the characters by third-party makers are supposed to be (although it's KINDAAAA obvious). I'll use instead, the names they give their products.

FIND IT!
